Buying or selling for yourself?

These offers did best when we tested them on past GE trades.

Buy offer
17,034 GP
Sell offer
17,999 GPAfter the 2% tax, you keep 17,640 GP.

In our tests, a little under half of offers to buy or sell one completed within an hour.

Need it now? Buying right away costs about 17,999 GP, what buyers have been paying. Selling right away gets about 17,034 GP, what sellers have been taking. In our tests, waiting up to an hour for an offer saved about 2% compared with trading right away.

How we know

We tried 80 ways to pick an offer price on 6 weeks of past GE trades. Then we tested the best ones again on 5 other weeks we hadn’t used.

Each offer waited up to an hour. If it hadn’t completed by then, we finished the trade right away and counted that cost.

Offering at recent prices worked best. The buy offer is the average price sellers got in the latest five-minute stretch with a sale. The sell offer is the average price buyers paid in the latest five-minute stretch with a purchase.

We also tried the usual price over the last 6 hours. It cost a little more than recent prices, and fewer offers completed.

We worked all this out from past trades. We didn’t place these offers ourselves.

No flip suggested right now. Buying as many as recent trades can fill would make under 8,000 GP after tax.

GE tax

The tax takes 37% of the gap.

Each sale at 17,999 GP pays 359 GP in tax. That’s 37% of the 965 GP gap between the buy and sell offers above.

Bought at 17,034 GP, it has to sell for at least 17,381 GP to break even.

High alch

Selling pays more right now.

High Level Alchemy gives 90 GP. A nature rune costs 163 GP, so a cast loses 73 GP. A GE sale at 17,999 GP leaves 17,640 GP after the tax.

This is how our past suggestions for this item did. Every 2 hours we save the flip we suggest. 6 hours later, we test it against the real GE trades in between, after the 2% tax. If its buy offer wouldn’t have filled, we leave it out. These are tests, not trades players made. Newer tests count more. How we test

Past results matter. In our research on flipping after the 2% tax, items whose record made 2–5% made +2.6% on average the next time.
