Gear Up: The Best-Value Gear for Any Boss

Type your name and pick a boss. Gear Up shows the gear that’s worth the GP, and how much damage you’ll take.

What’s Gear Up?

Gear Up is a new free page. Type your RuneScape name and pick a boss or monster. Gear Up looks up your levels. Then it shows the gear worth buying for that fight.

It doesn’t just show the strongest gear in the game. Most players can’t afford that, and most of it isn’t worth the price. Gear Up finds the point where spending more stops helping much. We call that your Good setup. It’s the best value for your GP.

What you’ll see

  • Good, Better and Best: three setups at rising prices. Better or Best only shows if it kills at least 10% faster than the one below. For a lot of bosses, Good is all you need.
  • A chart of how much damage each upgrade adds for its price. Drag along it to see each upgrade in order.
  • How much HP you’ll lose each kill, and how many sharks that is (a shark heals 20). If another setup makes you lose much less HP, Gear Up offers it as a safer pick.
  • Gear Up puts the money into damage first. Any slot still empty gets cheap armour, so you never go in with no body armour.
  • A “Before you go” list: food, prayer potions, and a cure if the fight can poison or venom you. For 35 hard fights, it also lists the attacks prayer won’t stop. Other fights link to their Wiki page.
  • Quests, prayers and untradeable items that would help. Mark the ones you have, and Gear Up’s gear changes to use them.
  • Only combat styles that can hit. If melee can’t reach a boss, like Zulrah, Gear Up won’t suggest it.

How it’s different

There are good gear tools already:

  • The OSRS Wiki DPS calculator is very accurate. You pick every item yourself, and it tells you how strong that setup is.
  • GearScape finds the strongest setup for a budget you choose. You can also pick items to avoid, a favourite style and more.
  • Best-in-slot lists show the top gear for each slot. Most players can’t afford all of it.

Gear Up only asks for your name and the boss. You don’t pick a budget: it finds the price where more GP stops helping much. And it shows the damage you’ll take, not just the damage you’ll deal.

Here’s an example: ranged gear at the Champion of Scabaras, for a player with 76 Ranged.

  • Good: about 60K of gear deals about 4.5 damage a second.
  • Best: about 9.2M of gear deals about 5.9 damage a second. Going further would cost more than Best will spend (100M).
  • The strongest gear Gear Up knows costs about 121M. It deals about 6.4 damage a second.

Better would be the same gear as Best here, so Gear Up shows just Good and Best.

The 121M gear costs about 2,000 times as much as Good, but adds less than 2 damage a second. That’s why Gear Up shows Good first.

Try it

Gear Up is free, and you don’t need an account. Open Gear Up.

Damage uses the same formulas as the OSRS Wiki DPS calculator. We checked ranged and melee setups against it by hand, and they matched. Magic uses the same formulas but hasn’t been checked by hand yet.

Levels come from Wise Old Man, a free site that tracks OSRS stats. Prices come from the OSRS Wiki’s Grand Exchange prices, so setups change as prices move.

The Champion of Scabaras example uses one account’s levels (76 Ranged, 74 Prayer) and prices on 5 November 2026: 60K of gear for 4.54 damage a second, 9.17M (its Best setup) for 5.86, and 121M for 6.35. Best spends up to 100M here. Your numbers will differ.

The attacks prayer won’t stop come from each fight’s OSRS Wiki page.
